DONJI CAGLIC, Nov 16 (Hina) - UNPROFOR and Croatian police opened a
checkpoint today at 8am in Donji Caglic near Lipik, UNPROFOR
spokesman in Sector West Moh'd Otiashat said.
The joint checkpoint was set up in line with an October 28
agreement between UNPROFOR and Croatian authorities.
Under the agreement, Croatian police would check Croatian
vehicles while UN peacekeepers would check UNPROFOR's. Croatian
police are allowed to patrol the entire Bukovcanska Street.
But, according to UNPROFOR spokeswoman Susan Manuel, Croatian
police would only conduct patrols 500 m into the street for
security reasons.
The opening of the checkpoint would facilitate further
reconstruction of displaced persons' destroyed and damaged houses
in the street.
Manuel said reconstruction was delayed until after today's
official opening of the checkpoint.
