SARAJEVO, Nov 6 (Hina) - The Bosnian government army gained more
ground in today's battles against Serb forces on Mount Cemerno
and the Nisic plateau, 20 km north of Sarajevo, 1st Corps
commander General Vahid Karavelic said this evening.
Sarajevo television interrupted its programme around 8 pm to
broadcast his statement.
Karavelic said his troops captured about 60 square kms of
land, including several villages. They also took a number of Serb
soldiers prisoner and seized substantial amounts of weapons and
ammunition.
Mount Cemerno is a strategic point from which it possible to
control a road linking government-held Tuzla to central Bosnia.
Bosnian Serb forces launched an offensive in the region two
months ago but the Bosnian army stopped it and went over to the
counter-offensive.
UN sources confirmed the resumption of fighting yesterday.
