VITEZ, Aug 3 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Defence Council
(HVO) headquarters in Vitez (Central Bosnia), Franjo Nakic,
informed today journalists that the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina
attacked and then arrested 12 HVO soldiers from Vares, 30 km. N. of
Sarajevo, at 16:00 hrs on August 1. As the Bosnian Army had already
taken another 6 Croats hostage, the HVO troops did not undertake
military action in fear for possible consequences on the lives of
the 6 Croat hostages. The Bosnian army released 18 hostages, but
their military equipment has not been given back so far. The
Bosnian army's troops remain now at the previous HVO frontlines
toward Serb positions on Mount Zvijezda, which they captured when
arresting the HVO soldiers.
The Vitez HVO has already informed the HVO headquarters and
the Bosnian army headquarters of this case of violating a ceasefire
accord.
