FIGHTING TAILS OFF IN BOSNIA, SAYS U.N. SPOKESMAN CHAPERON

SARAJEVO, July 3 (Hina) - Fighting at the most of crisis areas in Bosnia-Herzegovina tailed off in the last 24 hours, said U.N. Protection Force (UNPROFOR) spokesman, Eric Chaperon, in Sarajevo on Sunday. Severe battles continued northeast of the Bosniac-held town of Zavidovici in the hotly contested area of Mount Ozren throughout Saturday, as U.N. military observers registered. There was fighting along the disengagement line between the Bosnian army's fifth corps and forces loyal to the breakaway Moslem leader Fikret Abdic in western Bosnia at the same time. U.N. military observers did not get much information on the developments around a vital supply road between Zavidovici and Tuzla within the Ozren pocket where the bitter fighting between the Bosnian army and Bosnian Serb forces was raging yesterday. U.N. observes were only able to register that about a hundred shells had landed in the area of Ribnica on that battlefield yesterday and last night. The situation in Sarajevo is still relatively calm but there are more and more incidents of opening sniper fire, according to U.N. spokesman Chaperon. He added that another five attacks on the U.N. staff without serious consequences had been registered in the last 24 hours. The Bosnian army's headquarters accused scathingly UNPROFOR of its intention to cause a rift between political and military leadership of Bosnia-Herzegovina because it reproached the Bosnian army with carrying out most of incidents aimed at violation of one-month truce. Last week UNPROFOR's representatives blamed the Bosnian army for being responsible for an offensive at Mount Ozren. UNPROFOR also said that the seven corps of the Bosnian army had undertaken offensive operations in the area of Bugojno. The Bosnian army's headquarters issued a statement last night denying UNPROFOR's accusations. In the statement the blue berets are reproached for the fact that they have not forced Serb aggressors' formations to withdraw completely from a safe haven of Gorazde (eastern Bosnia) and for the fact that they have not provided conditions for the right peace throughout the whole of Bosnia-Herzegovina. 031607 MET jul 94
