HEAVY FIGHTING AT MOUNT OZREN, IN WEST BOSNIA AND NEAR BUGOJNO

SARAJEVO, July 1 (Hina) - The intensified combat and deterioration of the situation were registered on many battlefields of Bosnia- Herzegovina, U.N.Protection Force (UNPROFOR) spokesman said on Friday in the UNPROFOR headquarters in Sarajevo. Serb forces launched a counteroffensive in the southern part of Mount Ozren (north central Bosnia) and retook some parts of that crisis area. No reliable information can be provided so far on the situation around the road between the town of Zavidovici and Tuzla for which the current fighting is still waging, said UNPROFOR spokesman Eric Chaperon at the press-conference. According to him, U.N. observers are miles away from the crisis spot and their ability does not extend beyond counting numbers of shells landing there. Military observers reported about greater offensive operations of the Bosnian army 7th corps in the area between Bugojno and Turbe. Heavy artillery fighting was registered on that battlefield. Combat between forces loyal to the breakaway Fikret Abdic and the 5th corps of Bosnian army re-erupted in the northwest enclave of Bihac on Thursday. The formations loyal to Abdic were supported by Serbs (UNPROFOR office in Zagreb stated yesterday that the Serbs from occupied areas of Croatia, UNPA North, had moved 20 tanks to Abdic's forces from several U.N.-monitored arms depots.) In this period the situation in Sarajevo and Gorazde was calm, and the area of Gradacac and the Posavina corridor saw a quiet day, said UNPROFOR spokesman in Sarajevo. 011509 MET jul 94
