OSIJEK, July 3 (Hina) - About twenty detonations echoing from the
occupied area of Baranja and toward Sarvas could be heard last
night and on Sunday morning.
According to the local Croatian army's officials in the
district of Osijek, the U.N. Protection (UNPROFOR) liaison
officer was informed of the explosions. UNPROFOR confirmed that
20 detonations were registered in the zones where the Russian
UNPROFOR battalion and Belgian peace keepers are deployed so that
it sent teams for patrolling there.
According to the information and reports so far available,
the explosions echoed from the area between the mouth of the
Drava river into the Danube, near Aljmas, whereas some
detonations were registered coming from the far parts of Baranja.
UNPROFOR is to investigate causes and origin of detonations.
It underlines this cannot be characterized as a military
operation and, therefore, there is no reason for disturbance and
worry among the citizens of Osijek, according to the report of
the local Croatian army's officials' report.
