SARAJEVO, June 15 (Hina) - Barring sporadic incidents, a lull has
been observed on the frontlines in Bosnia-Herzegovina, said
UNPROFOR spokesman in Sarajevo Major Eric Chaperon on Wednesday.
He said sustained fighting was recorded only in western
Bosnia, both between Abdic's units and Bosnian army, which
exchanged over 100 shells, and between Bosnian army and Serb
irregulars, which exchanged sixty-four shells in the vicinity of
Njastre in western Bosnia this morning.
Small arms fire was opened at a UNPROFOR patrol from Serb
positions in the Srebrenica area, but there were no casualties.
Small arms fire was also opened at a UNPROFOR patrol
travelling in the northern part of the 3-km exclusion zone around
Gorazde.
Chaperon said UNPROFOR vehicles travelling from Sarajevo to
Gorazde still had to cope with Serb obstruction. The latest
incident took place two days ago, when the Serbs held up two
medical vehicles belonging to the Nordic battalion.
UNHCR spokesman in Sarajevo Peter Kessler said on Wednesday
that seven armed men kidnapped a truck belonging to a humanitarian
organisation near HVO-controlled Kiseljak in the Sarajevo area.
Local police did find the truck a little later, but without
attempting to investigate the case, which prompted Kessler to
declare the area "unsafe."
Special US coordinator for the rebuilding of Sarajevo William
Eagleton said that UN Secretary-General Boutros-Ghali convened a
conference on the rebuilding of Sarajevo for June 29 in New York.
Eagleton said it there were real expectations the sufficient funds
for rebuilding the city and repairing the roads to the Adriatic
would be raised.
