ZAGREB, June 16 (Hina) - Talks between the Croatian government and
Serb authorities from the UNPAs were cancelled on Thursday as Serb
negotiators did not want the meeting to be held as previously
agreed, ambassador to the International Conference on the former
Yugoslavia Kai Eide told reporters at UN headquarters in Zagreb.
The two sides were to meet in the lake resort of Plitvice,
southeast of the Croatian capital of Zagreb, to discuss economic
issues.
Eide specified that the two sides disagreed over the agenda,
composition of the delegations and presence of reporters. He
emphasized that "the door was not closed" and that the Serb side
was expected to show more flexibility since the talks were to their
interest. Eide announced further efforts by international mediators
to revive the negotiations.
