GENEVA, June 7 (Hina) - Representatives of the Serb authorities in
the occupied areas consented to resume the peace talks with the
Croatian Government that should be held on 16 and 17 June in
Croatia.
A correspondent of Croatian Television reported from Geneva
this evening that a leader of the rebel Serbs, Milan Martic, had
talked today with the Co-Chairmen of the Geneva Conference on
Former Yugoslavia, Owen and Stoltenberg, as well U.N. Secretary-
General's special envoy Akashi. Upon his talks in Geneva Martic
stated that the purpose of his arrival in Geneva had been "to find
out all possibilities for negotiations with Croatia". Martic added
that the local Serb authorities would be flexible in order that all
thorny issues could be resolved in a peaceful manner.
"We have decided to resume negotiations with Croatia on 16
and 17 June in the area of the Plitvice Lakes," said Martic
pointing out that the Plitvice Lakes belonged to the breakaway "the
Republic of Krajina". According to Martic, this would not prejudge
political settlements. He said that Owen and Stoltenberg had
convinced him in that. Martic stated also that political
settlements should be discussed in the third stage of negotiations,
reported Croatian Television's corespondent from Geneva on Tuesday
evening.
