A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON FRIDAY

ZAGREB, Jun 3 (Hina) - In coverage of yesterday's Government session which focused on the stabilisation programme and tourism, the VJESNIK quotes the Prime Minister as saying: "Even the slightest rise in inflation would be a direct attack on the stabilisation scheme." Commenting on the failure of negotiations on a cessation of hostilities in Bosnia, VJESNIK echoed Moslem views that they "would attend the talks provided the Serb forces pull out of the Gorazde exclusion zone." In an article headlined: "Who Threatens Croatian Politicians?" the paper tries to put in context Liberal leader Budisa's statement at a press conference that he had sought police protection because of threatening messages. Vjesnik suggests that the threats may be connected with the situation in Parliament, or may be the product of a sick mind. Commenting on a series of press conferences by parliamentary opposition parties, VJESNIK says: "One gets the impression that both sides are caught in a trap set by HDZ dissidents and that everyone is trying to break free with as few scratches as possible." The paper brings an interview with Kresimir Zubak, the first President of the recently-proclaimed Federation of Bosnia- Herzegovina. Today's VECERNI LIST also covers the Government session, echoing the Prime Minister's words that "the successful implementation of the stabilisation programme requires a consensus in Parliament and within the Executive, including the President and the trade unions." The paper also brings an interview with Kresimir Zubak who says: "I think that we should also try and negotiate with the Serbs. If we propose them solutions, and if these solutions are supported by the international community and rejected by their leadership, then we have a legitimate right to protect our rights by force." Reporting on inter-party talks on the situation in Parliament, the paper carries a conclusion reached at the latest opposition meeting: "The Opposition insists on the provisions of the May 18 inter-party deal." "Opposition Obey Degoricija" is the headline of an interview with Adam Mestrovic, leader of HDZ deputies in Parliament, who said: "If the Liberals were at the helm of the opposition negotiating team, they would not have nominated HDZ renegades and turncouts as deputy speakers of both houses of Parliament." 031301 MET jun 94
