ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Mate Granic on Monday forwarded a letter to the UN
Secretary-General's Special Envoy Yasushi Akashi, strongly
protesting over incidents that occurred at Split and Sarajevo
airports on February 5.
Some UNPROFOR junior officials and officers prevented Croatian
ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina Zdravko Sanacevic and several
other Croatian nationals from entering the Bosnian capital, said
the letter.
"It is unheard-of that an ambassador is denied entry to the
capital to which he is accredited either by his host Government or
by officials representing an international organisation such as the
United Nations. It is also unheard-of that an ambassador is
subjected to search of his diplomatic mail by UNPROFOR junior
officials in his own country," said the letter, expressing
understanding for the problems UNPROFOR was facing on the ground
and hope that similar incidents would not occur in the future.
Minister Granic voiced deep concern and personal grief over
the latest tragedy at a Sarajevo marketplace, stressing that the
Croatian Government vigorously condemned such barbaric acts against
innocent civilians. In order to put a stop to further escalation of
chaos, violence and suffering, the Croatian Government called on
all sides to cease hostilities and unconditionally return to the
negotiating table. The Croatian Government urged the international
community to use all means, including force, to end the tragic
conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina, said the letter.
