SARAJEVO, May 28 (Hina) - Bosnian Serbs took 33 Ukrainian UN
peacekeepers to their Pale headquarters, about 20 km east of
Sarajevo, early this morning.
The Ukrainians had been blocked at a UN heavy weapons
collection site in Ilidzda and Krivoglavci, west of the city, UN
spokesman Guy Vinnet said.
The UN peacekeepers were taken to Pale by bus and no details
of their condition were available.
Serb forces overnight blocked the last UN-guarded heavy
weapons depot in Uzdojnice, a village south of Sarajevo, near the
Serb Lukavica barracks. The depot was supervised by 13 Russian UN
troops who were taken hostage by Serbs.
Last night French UN soldiers regained full control of the
Vrbanja Bridge and a UN observation post there, the scene of
yesterday's fighting with Serbs.
The Serbs who controlled the bridge area tried to withdraw
around 2.00 hours today. A French soldier they held as a hostage
managed to escape, after which Serbs opened fire at other French
troops in the area. The French responded to the attack and in a
short while forced the Serbs to retreat.
Vinnet said that the situation at the bridge was calm.
