SARAJEVO, May 18 (Hina) - The Bosnian army yesterday managed to
regain control over some bunkers on the slopes of Mt Trebevic that
had been seized by Serbs on Tuesday, the UN in Sarajevo said today.
Serbs used at least two tanks, probably of T-55 type, in
yesterday's attack on Debelo Brdo, UN spokesman Gary Coward said.
The Bosnian army used mortars and small arms in response to the
Serb attack, the UN said.
The Bosnian army had several bunkers on Debelo Brdo, from
which it was possible to target a road linking Pale and the Serb-
controlled Lukavica barracks.
A heavy exchange of fire was reported in northern Sarajevo,
where four Bosnian army troops and three civilians were wounded, as
well as around Sarajevo airport.
Serbs yesterday broke into three UN-controlled arsenals,
firing 63 mortar shells at Sarajevo, Coward said.
Bosnian army responded by firing 41 mortar shells at Serb-held
Ilidza. A French peace-keeper, caught in the crossfire, was
slightly wounded.
All Bosnian army and police checkpoints outside Sarajevo were
yesterday closed to UN vehicles and personnel. The Bosnian army
justified the measure by security reasons.
All approaches to the Sarajevo airport were also closed, as
well as the Bratstvo-Jedinstvo bridge, which links the Government-
controlled territory with the Serb-held Grbavica neighbourhood.
