ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - During his visit to Iceland Sunday, where
he had travelled to attend the final match of the World Handball
Championships between Croatian and French national teams, Prime
Minister Nikica Valentic took the opportunity to meet his
counterpart Danid Oddsson, and other Icelandic politicians.
The talks were attended by Minister of Agriculture and
Environment (who also fills the post of deputy to Foreign
Minister), Gudmundur Bjarnasom, chairman of parliamentary Foreign
Relations Committee, Geir Haarde, and Prime Minister's advisor
Alber Jonsson.
The Croatian side was represented by deputies to Prime
Minister, Borislav Skegro and Bosiljko Misetic, Minister of
Administration Davorin Mlakar, deputy minister of Education and
Sport, Mirko Novosel, and other officials.
Prime Minister Valentic recalled that Iceland was the first
country to recognize independence of Croatia in December 1991.
Oddsson said that Iceland will continue to support Croatia's policy
of peaceful reintegration. He accepted Valentic's invitation to
visit Croatia.
During his attendance to the handball match Valentic also met
the President of Iceland, Ms. Vigdis Finnbogadottir.
