ZAGREB, May 6 (Hina) - The Defence and National Security Council
today convened under the chairmanship of Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman, the President's office said in a statement.
Following is the full text of the statement:
"The Council discussed further normalisation of the situation
in newly-liberated Western Slavonia, the restoration of government
structures and the Croatian constitutional and legal system.
The Council again reiterated Croatia's determination to
guarantee all civil rights to the civilian population in the area.
It was stressed that only those Serbs who had committed war crimes
would be tried.
The Council confirmed Croatia's decision that UNCRO could only
perform the following tasks within the new mandate: the control of
Croatia's internationally recognised borders, the control of rocket
launchers in the hand of Serb irregular units, the control of the
Udbina airfield and the monitoring of peaceful reintegration.
The Council emphasised that the only possible task of the
international community in liberated western Slavonia could be that
of monitoring the observance of all human and ethnic rights.
The Council was informed of the President's decision to
appoint Col. Gen. Zvonimir Cervenko as deputy to Chief-of-Staff
Gen. Bobetko, who was advised by a medical team to take a rest
cure."
