ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic
yesterday forwarded a letter to the U.N. Security Council
President, Jean-Bernard Merimee of France.
In the letter, Granic informed Merimee about the repeated Serb
terrorist attack on downtown Zagreb, when missiles armed with
cluster-bomb warheads hit a pediatric clinic and the Croatian
National Theatre.
"Today's casualties include one killed and 43 wounded, of whom
as many as twenty are foreign nationals," Granic said.
"The Croatian Government considers this as an act aimed at
wanton destruction and willful killing, willfully causing suffering
and serous injury to body and health," the letter says.
"It is the firm belief of my Government that the people
responsible should be brought to justice."
Granic went on to inform Merimee of the completion of the
Western Slavonia action.
"The 600 Serbian paramilitary troops that have laid down their
arms are presently being disbanded in an orderly manner under the
supervision of UNCRO," Granic said.
He noted that "Croatia was cooperating fully with relevant
international humanitarian organisations in securing the safety and
well-being of the civilian population in the area."
"Croatia remains committed to its long-standing policy of
negotiation and peaceful reintegration of its occupied territories,
and in this regard has signed a Cessation of Hostilities Agreement
proposed by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General,
Mr. Yasushi Akashi," Granic writes, warning that "the state of
unpredictability existing within the Croatian Serb leadership on
the occupied territories calls for the urgent establishment of
control over their missile sytems and bases."
"Should, however, the Serbian side continue with its
indiscriminate attacks against civilians, my Government once again
states that it will be compelled to respond appropriately and
disengage the relevant attacking positions of the Serbian
paramilitary forces," Granic concludes.
