PAKRAC, May 4 (Hina) - Three local Serb leaders and a military
commander accepted a Croatian government appeal to surrender this
afternoon.
The head of the self-styled Serb municipality of Pakrac, Obrad
Ivanovic, his deputy, Veljko Dzakula, and the commander of the
rebel Serb 51th brigade, Stevan Harambasic, decided to leave
wooded hills overlooking Pakrac shortly after 16.00 hours and
surrender.
Ivanovic told reporters in Pakrac that he had heard that the
Croatian authorities would guarantee security and protection to all
civilians he felt he was responsible for.
Another Serb official, head of the self-styled municipal
assembly, Miroslav Grozdanic, also surrendered at 17.30 hours.
