ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Russian Major General. Alexander
Perelyakin, former commander of UN Eastern Slavonia and Baranja
(in the former UNPA Sector East of Croatia), was dismissed today
after a UN investigation had revealed his unprofessional conduct
and failures in service performance, UN spokesman Michael
Williams said at a press-conference in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The decision on general's dismissal was to take effect at
noon Tuesday, Williams said.
The UN headquarters had initiated an investigation being
concerned about problems of discipline and morale in "Sector
East", Williams added.
The investigation's results prompted the UN New York
headquarters to replace the commander in eastern Croatia .
The UN commander in chief, General Bertrand Janvier, met
General Perelyakin on Sunday to tell him that he would be
replaced on April 11, Williams said.
The UN deputy commander in the area, Colonel Tonon of
Belgium, was to take over.
Gen. Perelyakin was asked to leave the area and return to
Russia on the day dismissal was to take effect, Williams said.
