SARAJEVO, March 4 (Hina) - Head of the UN Civil Affairs
Department in Bosnia, Enrique Aguilar, failed to reach any
agreement on free passage for UN convoys in talks with Serb
general Nikola Koljevic yesterday at Pale.
Aguilar travelled to Pale as Yasushi Akashi's special envoy
in a bid to wring from Serb leaders a promise to abide by the
four-month truce, specifically its free movement clause, which
guarantees full freedom of movement to UN personnel and vehicles.
Koljevic merely said he would pass on UNPROFOR's request to
Serb military commanders.
The current blockade of road convoys most seriously affects
the eastern-Bosnian enclaves - Srebrenica, Gorazde and Zeba.
UN spokesman Gary Coward reiterated that the peace-keepers
stationed in eastern Bosnia were running low on food, medical and
fuel supplies.
"The situation could become critical very soon," he said.
According to another spokesman, Colum Murphy, the blockade
could not be tolerated. Asked what measures UNPROFOR was planning
to take, Murphy did not answer directly, but said parachuting
supplies was not ruled out.
Murphy today strongly condemned frequent sniper attacks on
civilians in Sarajevo, particularly the "criminal" wounding of
women and children.
