SARAJEVO, Feb 23 (Hina) - Another UNHCR convoy reached Bihac
(western Bosnia) this morning, but the humanitarian situation in
the area was still difficult, the UNHCR in Sarajevo said today.
Only a seventh of aid supplies necessary to meet the
civilians' needs has reached the Bosnian Government-controlled part
of the Bihac pocket since January 1, spokesman Chris Janowski said.
According to UN estimates, western Bosnia needs at least 2,000
tonnes of food per month.
Serious clashes were recorded yesterday in the Velika Kladusa
area, where UN monitors counted no less than 238 detonations, the
UN in Sarajevo said today.
Troops loyal to Moslem renegade leader Fikret Abdic, backed by
Serb forces from the occupied part of Croatia, launched an infantry
advance on the villages of Podvizd and Kumarica, according to
spokesman Gary Coward.
UN monitors in charge of counting shells reported 12
detonations in the Bosanska Krupa area. No major clashes were
reported around Bihac.
