CLASHES IN WEST BOSNIA CONTINUE, NEGOTIATIONS GO ON, UN SAYS

SARAJEVO, Feb 6 (Hina) - Clashes in western Bosnia had been continuing in the last 24 hours, the Sarajevo-based UN Protection Force Headquarters officials said today. UN military observers counted 580 detonations at the front near Velika Kladusa at this period. They also reported about the small arms fire exchange, a UN spokesman, Gary Coward, said. A minor number of explosions was registered on the Bihac front, according to the same sources. On Saturday Serbs had launched six tank shells on the heart of Bihac, Sarajevo UNPROFOR confirmed today. Spokesman Coward said the UNPROFOR had sent a protest to local commanders of Karadzic's and Martic's forces because of that incident. Serbs also opened small arms fire at Bosnian Army positions in the Sarajevo suburb of Sedrenik, and at Bosnian troops near Blizna. Coward said many joint committees on the implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement in Bosnia had held sessions last weekend. Agreement was reached that joint patrols should start with controlling whether the demilitarized area on Mount Igman was being respected. Sarajevo UNPROFOR officials said Bosnian Serb authorities in Pale (outside Sarajevo) had given up making trouble for passage of UN convoys through Serb-held areas. All announced convoys on Sunday had reached their destinations without difficulty, Coward added. (hina) mms 061339 MET feb 95
