OSIJEK, Feb 7 (Hina) - UNPROFOR Sect East officials have described
the situation in Sector East as 'stable' despite an increase in the
number of ceasefire violations.
At a press conference today UNPROFOR spokeswoman Kirsten Haupt
blamed rebel Serbs for two thirds of ceasefire violations.
But she said Croats were responsible for breaches on January
28 which happened at UNPROFOR-controlled positions at Banovcici at
Markusica and resulted in a member of the Russian battalion being
injured.
Meanwhile joint UNCIVIPOL and Croatian patrols have been
deployed on the Croatian side of the zone of separation, Haupt
said.
UNPROFOR civil affairs coordinator, Phillip Corwin, said that
last week the Croatian side turned the spotlight on the question of
the implemenation of the Economic Agreement in Sector East.
The Osijek-based Croatian army command said the Markusica
incident was being investigated.
