ZAGREB, Jan 27 (Hina) - The House of Representatives today passed
two Bills of amendments to the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Act in
the first reading.
The House instructed the Government and the Chamber of
Commerce to submit, the first a report on the structure of such
Chambers in other European countries, and the second a report on
its functioning and activities, within 30 days.
The debate sparked off various queries about the proper role
of the Chamber of Commerce.
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) members mostly supported the
Bills, which transfer some of the Chamber's powers to various
ministries. Opposition Members mostly opposed this.
The House this afternoon added two items to the agenda: a
motion for a vote of confidence in newly-appointed ministers in the
Government and a motion for electing the first deputy speaker.
Under the Standing Orders, the first deputy speaker is elected
from Opposition ranks, the most likely candidate being Goran Granic
(Croatian Social Liberal Party).
Both items are to come up for debate in the next few days.
The House also concluded a debate on a motion to relieve the
Croatian Radio and TV drector Antun Vrdoljak of his duties.
The vote will take place on Tuesday.
