ZAGREB, Dec 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of Counties
closed a three-day session on Wednesday after endorsing several
bills in the first reading.
The upper house backed a draft criminal code and bills on
criminal procedure, juvenile courts and the protection of mentally
handicapped persons.
The basic aspects of the proposed criminal reform were
explained by Assistant Justice Minister Tomislav Peric.
After a brief discussion, deputies supported a social
programme for the next three years which was based on projected
macroeconomic stability and a rise in employment.
Deputies also backed a social welfare bill which requires
municipalities and cities to ensure at least five percent of their
revenues for social welfare purposes.
