CROATIAN PARLIAMENT'S UPPER HOUSE CLOSES SESSION

ZAGREB, Dec 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of Counties closed a three-day session on Wednesday after endorsing several bills in the first reading. The upper house backed a draft criminal code and bills on criminal procedure, juvenile courts and the protection of mentally handicapped persons. The basic aspects of the proposed criminal reform were explained by Assistant Justice Minister Tomislav Peric. After a brief discussion, deputies supported a social programme for the next three years which was based on projected macroeconomic stability and a rise in employment. Deputies also backed a social welfare bill which requires municipalities and cities to ensure at least five percent of their revenues for social welfare purposes. (hina) vm jn 112114 MET dec 96
