ZAGREB CRIS

ZAGREB, Oct 22 (Hina) - A meeting of leaders of the city
committees of political parties represented in the Zagreb City
Council failed to take place on Tuesday.
Eduard Kunjko, president of the city committee of the
Independent Croatian Democrats, was the only one to respond to
an invitation by the Croatian Democratic Union.
HDZ city committee president Zlatko Canjuga told a news
conference that the failure of other parties to attend
represented "a deliberate obstruction of a democratic dialogue
in the City of Zagreb" and that they were afraid of "sitting
at the negotiating table together with HDZ."
Canjuga added that it was an attempt by other parties "to
escape from the lost political battle and shift efforts at
resolving the Zagreb crisis onto Parliament."
HDZ would request a session of the City Council to motion
a vote of no confidence in Council president Zdravko Tomac of
the Social Democratic Party.
HDZ would also request the opinion of the Administration
Ministry on a decision by the six-party alliance to freeze
their activities in the City and County Councils.
Canjuga said that HDZ was still ready for a democratic
dialogue with any party in order to resolve the government
crisis in the capital.
