ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - President of the Zagreb Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ), Zlatko Canjuga, on Tuesday commented Monday's decision
of the Alliance of Political Parties to cease all activities of
councilors at the Zagreb City Council for a month. #L#
He said this was a "purposeful obstruction and illegal move of
opposition parties".
The HDZ held that the fact that the statement had been issued
at a time when Croatia was to be admitted into the Council of
Europe was no coincidence, Canjuga said, adding that it posed the
question of the purpose of this obstruction in the long run.
He stressed that the HDZ would offer to open a new round of
negotiations with the opposition.
The HDZ would offer that the Zagreb mayor and four members of
the city leadership belong to the HDZ and that 11 municipal
officials and two mayor's deputies belong to parties, members of
the city Council.
