ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The Croatian government and the UN
Transitional Administration for Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES)
agreed on Monday that the joint electoral committee would meet
in Vukovar on Wednesday to discuss the holding of elections in
the UN-administered area of eastern Croatia.
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Kostovic informed
UNTAES elections officer Onofre Dos Santos in Zagreb on Monday
about the government's views of the matter.
UNTAES and the Croatian government differ on who can vote
in the elections and the time they should be held.
UNTAES says that all people currently living in the area,
including the refugees, can participate in the ballot.
Croatia's view is that only the residents registered in the
1991 population census are entitled to vote.
The Croatian government believes that municipal elections
can be held on December 15, until which time the Ministry of
Administration will have issued necessary documents to the
local population, Kostovic said.
