ZAGREB, 27 Sept (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Representatives on Friday reached a consensus on the adoption of a Resolution on the expiry of the mandate of UN Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) on 15
January 1997. After that date, UNTAES is to hand over complete authority over the area to the Republic of Croatia.
ZAGREB, 27 Sept (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives on Friday reached a consensus on the adoption of a
Resolution on the expiry of the mandate of UN Transitional
Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) on 15 January 1997.
After that date, UNTAES is to hand over complete authority over the
area to the Republic of Croatia. #L#
According to the Resolution, UNTAES should carry out, in line
with UN Security Council Resolution 1037 and Croatian legislation,
elections for the bodies of local authority in the Croatian
Danubian area by 15 December, 1996.
According to the Resolution, the Government is to carry out
all necessary activities regarding the implementation of the
Parliament decision on the expiry of the UNTAES mandate on 15
January 1997.
The President of the Republic is advised to use his
constitutional authority and take all necessary steps with the aim
of implementing the Resolution.
The House of Representatives unanimously adopted a decision
according to which the Croatian government, in case a stand
contrary to the Resolution is taken, it has to inform the House of
Representatives about it. The Government is also to consult the
Parliament before accepting or signing any document concerning the
UNTAES mandate.
