DUBLIN, 29 Sept (Hina) - A one-day international conference on law
enforcement aid for Bosnia-Herzegovina ended in Dublin yesterday.
The aim of the conference was to secure donations for a
programme on reconstruction of Bosnian police forces. #L#
U.N. Police Task Force commissioner Peter Fitzgerald said that
the composition of the future police force had to reflect the
ethnic composition of Bosnian cantons and municipalities.
The Croat-Muslim Federation Interior Minister Avdo Hebib
supported the programme while Republika Srpska International
Affairs Minister Dragan Kijac said that the programme represented
'a long-term procedure' which demanded long-standing military and
political stability in the region.
The United States had spent US $ 3,5 million for the equipment
and expert staff who helped UN police force in planning the
programme, aide to U.S. Secretary of State, Robert Gelbard said. He
added that his country would set aside another US $ 17 million for
the programme.
The Swiss representative at the conference said his country
would donate 300,000 Swiss francs. Denmark would donate 500,000
Danish crowns. The German representative at the conference said his
country was willing to participate only in the financing of
concrete programmes since it was restricted by its budget.
