ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - Croatian vice-premier Ivica Kostovic said
in Zagreb on Tuesday that there was some visible progress in some
aspects of the peaceful reintegration of the UN-administered area
of eastern Croatia, while there was lack of progress as regards the
return of displaced persons to the area. #L#
Kostovic on Tuesday held talks with U.S. Ambassador to Croatia
Peter Galbraith about the reintegration of the Croatian Danubian
area.
"I expressed the view of the Croatian government that there
was no progress as regards the return of displaced persons, except
in the preparations for the return in villages included in the
pilot-programme," Kostovic stressed after the meeting.
He said that he had expressed hope during the talks that the
UN Transitional Administration would "take necessary steps" to
accelerate the process of return of displaced persons.
Galbraith also expressed the wish for the process of return to
be accelerated.
He expressed satisfaction with the constructive step of the
Croatian government to accept the amnesty law, adding that at the
moment, steps were expected to be taken which would enable the
return of Croatian Serbs to their homes in Croatia, whether they
were at the moment in eastern Slavonia or refugees in Yugoslavia or
Bosnia.
