SARAJEVO, Sept 9 (Hina) - Coordinator of the international monitors
who should supervise the forthcoming Bosnian elections, Dutch
Interior Minister Edward van Thijn, on Monday dismissed the
possibility that he might resign. He said that, within the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, there was full
accord that the final election results should be announced only
after international monitors evaluated their regularity.
Van Thijn told a press conference in Sarajevo that the first
report on the elections would be announced 48 hours after the
voting.
"I will announce the final opinion on the regularity of the
voting 24 hours after the results of the elections are submitted to
me, and after that, Swiss Foreign Minister Flavio Cotti will
announce whether the elections are valid or not and publicly state
their results", van Thijn said.
He warned that the counting of votes would take days, mainly
due to many logistic problems.
The regularity of the Bosnian 14 September elections would be
supervised by 980 international monitors, including 200
parliamentary representatives from different countries, van Thijn
said, adding that they would inspect voting posts deployed in some
500 mobile teams.
