DARDA, Jul 10 (Hina) - Retirees from the eastern-Slavonian village of Darda on Wednesday received their first pensions after five years, as part of a pilot project for the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area.

Pensions in kuna and personal documents were delivered to 150
retirees at the Darda municipal hall.
"We are here to implement a project arranged with the
Government of Croatia - namely, to start paying pensions to people
who have acquired this right by paying contributions to the Pension
Fund during their working life," UNTAES head of civil affairs,
Gerrard Fisher, said.
"The Croatian state hereby wants to prove its intent do deal
fairly and justly with all its citizens, regardless of their
nationality," said head of the Croatian Government Office for the
establishment of Croatian authority in the Croatian Danubian area,
Ivica Vrkic.
