MOSTAR, June 21 (Hina) - The NATO-led peace Implementation Force
(IFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina said on Friday its presence in the
southwestern city of Mostar on the day of municipal elections
would be very noticeable.
The IFOR battalion in charge of security would use all
armoured vehicles and weapons at its disposal in patrolling the
city on election day on June 30, IFOR spokesman Salvatore Iacono
told a news conference in the IFOR base at Mostar's Ortijes
airport.
Iacono stressed that IFOR would not perform police work but
that its increased presence in the city would make it possible
for international and local police forces to do their job.
Asked whether there was a possibility of IFOR's
intervention, the spokesman said that the field commander decides
when to take action.
Iacono described the situation in Mostar as very calm and
said that he did not expect much trouble on election day.
