AGREEMENT ON MOSTAR ELECTIONS SIGNED

MOSTAR, 25 May (Hina) - An Agreement on the Local Elections in Mostar was signed in Mostar on Saturday. The agreement, confirming that the elections will be held in June, was signed by the EU Administrator of Mostar, Ricard Perez Casado, Mile Puljic on behalf of the Croat side, Safet Orucevic on behalf of the Bosniac-Muslim side, Rajko Gatalo on behalf of the Serb side and the Italian Ambassador to the EU, Alfredo Matacotto, on behalf of the EU President.
MOSTAR, 25 May (Hina) - An Agreement on the Local Elections in Mostar was signed in Mostar on Saturday. The agreement, confirming that the elections will be held in June, was signed by the EU Administrator of Mostar, Ricard Perez Casado, Mile Puljic on behalf of the Croat side, Safet Orucevic on behalf of the Bosniac-Muslim side, Rajko Gatalo on behalf of the Serb side and the Italian Ambassador to the EU, Alfredo Matacotto, on behalf of the EU President. #L# Here is the text of the agreement: '1. Elections will take place no later than 30 June, 1996 on the basis of existing agreements and decrees of the EU Administrator. The EU Administrator will determine the exact date of the elections. 2. All those who were registered in the 1991 census as citizens of Mostar and have not given up voluntarily their domicile in Mostar have the right to vote. 3. The parties undertake all efforts to ensure the right to vote for refugees and displaced persons who fulfill the conditions of Par 2 above. This means in particular: - The parties organise transport by bus and other means for those refugees and displaced persons who want to participate in the elections in Mostar - The EU and the EU Administration are requested to support bus transport financially - In addition, the EU and the EUAM are requested to designate, in agreement with the host countries one voting location in each of those countries where the large majority of refugees from Mostar live (Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland). The parties and the EU will be represented and fully monitor the voting process in these locations. 4. The parties are obliged to ensure full freedom of movement and security for all those who travel to Mostar to exercise the right to vote both on the way to and within the city. 5. The Government of the Republic of Croatia guarantees unhindered passage through Croatia for the elections. 6. The host countries of refugees from Mostar are requested to facilitate participation of refugees in the elections and, in particular, to ensure that their status in the host country in not affected if they exercise their right to vote in the Mostar elections. 7. The parties commit themselves to immediately resume co- operation in the preparation of the elections, including participation in the election commissions.
