SARAJEVO, June 20 (Hina) - "The unification of Mostar is the most
important aim of the elections which in this town will take place
on 30 June", spokesman for the European Administration in Mostar,
Dragan Gasic, told a press conference in Sarajevo on Thursday.
Gasic said that there would be 77 polling posts and that all
parties taking part in the elections had the right to send their
monitors to all polling posts. He added that the first results
could be expected on 2 July.
Spokesman for the NATO-led Peace Implementation Force's
international division "Southeast", Jean-Remy Compain, on Thursday
confirmed that IFOR would ensure conditions for the scheduling of
the elections in Mostar, firstly by ensuring absolute freedom of
movement.
Compain said that IFOR would not undertake police duties, but
would act in case any armed groups attempted riots on election day.
Gasic confirmed that the European Administration had been
informed that some candidates from the five opposition party list
had been subject to threats, which prompted an investigation in the
matter. The investigation included representatives of the west
European police, Gasic concluded.
