FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - The OSCE chairman's decision whether and when to call the elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina would be announced before the end of this month, Flavio Cotti, Swiss Foreign Minister and the chairman of OSCE
(Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe), said in Florence on Friday.
FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - The OSCE chairman's decision whether and
when to call the elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina would be announced
before the end of this month, Flavio Cotti, Swiss Foreign Minister
and the chairman of OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation
in Europe), said in Florence on Friday. #L#
"After June 20, I will visit Sarajevo once again to assess the
situation, and my decision on elections will be made public before
the end of the month", said Cotti.
The elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be held under OSCE
supervision, were "a crucial element of the peace process in
Bosnia", said Cotti, adding that the elections would make it
possible to re-establish legitimate authority over the whole
Bosnian territory.
A vitally important condition for holding the elections was
the delivery of war crime suspects to the War Crimes Tribunal in
The Hague, since "their presence and influence are putting in
jeopardy not only the holding of free and fair elections, but the
whole process of democracy in Bosnia-Herzegovina," Cotti stressed.
Cotti urged all sides to put forth every effort to reach and
sign a sub-regional arms control agreement in Florence today.
Recent talks in Vienna and Oslo, held under OSCE auspices,
failed to come up with a regional arms control agreement.
