FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - The Ministerial conference on the
implementation of the Dayton peace accords for Bosnia-Herzegovina
on Friday ended with the signing of a sub-regional arms control
pact.
The signing of the agreement on arms control was almost
threatened at the last moment by an incident caused by a Bosnian
Serb representative Aleksa Buha.
When all signatories and witnesses gathered in the hall and
when the document was laid before Buha for him to sign it, he asked
about a second sheet of paper, expressing his doubt that the
document before him was the only one, but said that there was
another which he had not received.
There was some confusion and the host of the ministerial
conference, Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini, reiterated
several times that the document before Buha was the only one and
that there was no other.
When the people gathered thought that the document was not
going to be signed, Buha said he believed Dini and signed the
agreement.
After him, the agreement was signed by representatives of the
other four sides - Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Yugoslavia and
Bosnian Federation.
Representatives of the Contact Group, European Union,
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and UN
signed as witnesses.
