FLORENCE, June 13 (Hina) - Elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina must be
scheduled as planned, High Commissioner for the Application of the
Civil Part of the Dayton Agreement, Carl Bildt, told a Ministerial
Conference on the Implementation of the Dayton Agreement in
Florence, Italy, on Thursday.
Bildt said that the scheduling of the elections was important
in order to establish public institutions which would connect
Bosnian Croats, Moslems and Serbs in a joint state. He also warned
that a delay of the elections would increase the danger of a
division of Bosnia-Herzegovina and that it would make the
implementation of the peace process more difficult.
Bildt warned that there were forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina
working on a division along ethnic lines. "After six months the
forces of ethnic division are stronger than the forces of ethnic
integration", Bildt said.
"From here in Florence we must send a strong message that we
cannot tolerate such trends because the reconstruction of Bosnia-
Herzegovina means a lot more than only the reconstruction of
factories", Bildt concluded.
