FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - Council of Europe secretary general
Daniel Tarschys said on Friday that "forthcoming elections in
Bosnia-Herzegovina must be free and fair, but at the same time
they must not give a kind of legitimacy to forces hostile to the
peace process."
Speaking at a ministerial conference in Florence on the
implementation of the Dayton peace agreement in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Tarschys proposed that "Bosnian election candidates
should have to commit themselves to the peace process."
He said that each candidate should be obliged to make a
written declaration to respect the peace agreement and the
Bosnian Constitution, accept the principle of a multiethnic
society and protect human rights of every person irrespective of
nationality or religion, and submit to the unrestricted operation
of the rule of law, according to a statement from the Council of
Europe.
