STRASBOURG, 11 June (Hina) - Henrik Amneus, Permanent
Representative of Sweden to the Council of Europe, has been
appointed as Chairman of the Human Rights Joint Implementation
Committee by UNTAES, reports press office of the Council of Europe.
The Committee has the task to establish a human rights
monitoring mission, a mechanism for the redress of human rights
violations and a human rights education programme, as well as to
liaise with the Council of Europe human rights bodies.
Henrik Amneus is the second Permanent Representative to the
Council of Europe to be appointed in the framework of the
implementation of the peace agreements in the region after Gret
Haller, Permanent Representative of Switzerland, who was appointed
Ombudsperson of the Commission on Human Rights in Bosnia-
Herzegovina by the OSCE.
