MILITARY TRIBUNAL PRESIDENT
BELGRADE, June 9 (Hina) - "International Tribunal's indictments are
so deficient and flaccid that no court of law in the world would
launch an investigation," president of the Yugoslav Supreme
Military Tribunal Milos Gojkovic said.
He told Sunday's daily 'Dnevni Telegraf' that not even
preliminary investigations were under way concerning indictments
against Sljivancanin, Mrksic and Radic.
Gojkovic added that he had talked to the president of the
International Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, Antonio Cassese, whom
he had told that "our wish to cooperate with the Tribunal is
sincere and great, but because of the scantiness of the
indictments, our hands are tied. Until this is sorted out, we
remain on square one."
He also pointed out to Cassese that Yugoslavia's Constitution
did not envisage the possibility of extradition.
Copies of the indictments had arrived at the Supreme Military
Tribunal in Belgrade, Gojkovic said, adding that if sufficient
evidence was found, the Yugoslav courts of law would conduct a
prompt investigation and if they were found guilty, they would be
prosecuted.
