The 17 people had been temporarily accommodated in Serbia and
on Thursday returned to Rijeka, Zagreb, Knin and Vinkovci.
This direct entrance into Croatia was an encouraging step for
others who wanted to return, Lisinski said, adding that it was
important to reiterate the importance of amnesty, which the UNHCR
hoped for and which it would continue to support, and for it to
expand over the geographically limited area of eastern Slavonia to
all Croatian citizens of Serb nationality.
