Head of the Croatian delegation Zlatko Canjuga said that
Russia could greatly contribute to the normalization of relations
between Croatia and Serbia.
The Russian delegation expressed interest in the fate of Serbs
after the reintegration of eastern Slavonia into Croatia's
constitutional and legal system, as well as the fate of 20,000 Serb
refugees who wanted to return to Croatia.
Members of the Croatian delegation explained that the Minority
Act guaranteed all rights to all minorities in Croatia.
They also explained that the Serb leadership had manipulated
the Serb populace in Croatia, which was the reason for them
leaving, despite the fact that Croatian President Franjo Tudjman
had called them to stay.
"We want families to reunite and we have passed an Amnesty Act
in order to encourage the return of Serbs," Canjuga said.
Members of the Croatian delegation asked the Russian
delegation to use their influence over Serbia to resolve the issue
of 3,000 missing Croatian soldiers and civilians.
