The Russian diplomat had brought a special message from
Russian President Boris Eltsin to President Tudjman, Minister
Granic said after the talks.
The talks focused on the peaceful reintegration of eastern
Slavonia and the situation in the Republic and Federation of
Bosnia-Herzegovina. Granic accepted the invitation to Russian Prime
Minister Evgeni Primakov to visit the Russian Federation. The visit
would be scheduled after the election, Granic said.
"Croatia wants good relations with countries such as Russia,
the United States and China," Granic said.
The only objection raised by Croatia had to do with Russia's
unbalanced approach to the Balkan crisis, which was "well received
by Ivanov."
"We expect support in the reintegration of eastern Slavonia
and stronger trade relations," Granic said.
Ivanov said that the peaceful reintegration of eastern
Slavonia was progressing as scheduled. Russia expected the whole
process to be conducted within the framework of the Basic Agreement
on Eastern Slavonia and with the strict respect of human rights. He
added that Russia wanted to play an active role in the resolution
of the Bosnian crisis.
