Saturday received the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov,

At the start of talks, Ivanov handed a letter from President
Yeltsin to President Tudjman, who he regards as the most
influential politician in the region.
The President thanked Ivanov for the letter and Russia's
constructive role in resolving conflicts in the region.
Croatia is interested for continuing the development of
overall relations with Russia which existed within the framework of
the former Yugoslavia and Soviet Union, especially in the fields of
economy and tourism.
As for the situation in the region, Croatia supports the
normalization of relations among successor countries of the former
Yugoslavia on the basis of mutual recognition, and not on the basis
of forming any kind of new associations.
Croatia was decisive in the success of the Dayton and
Washington Agreements, especially in the establishment of the
Federation, in which Croatia expected the support of Europe, the
United States and Russia, Tudjman said.
Ivanov expressed support to the implementation of the peace
agreements, as well as in the development of overall relations
between Croatia and the Russian Federation.
Also present at the talks were Foreign Minister Mate Granić,
The President's Chief-of-Staff, Ivo Sanader and the President's
Advisor for foreign affairs, Željko Matić.
Accompanying Ivanov were The Russian Ambassador to Croatia,
Leonid Keresteđijanc and the deputy director of the 1st European
branch at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Ivanovski, a
statement from the President's Office said.
