NO POSSIBILITY OF SUBSEQUENT REGISTRATION FOR MOSTAR ELECTIONS

MOSTAR, May 11 (Hina) - The chairman of the Mostar electoral commission, Reuf Zaimovic, said on Saturday that the law and a decree by Mostar's EU administrator did not provide for a possibility of subsequent registration for elections in the city after the expiry of a registration deadline at midnight Friday. The leading Bosnian Moslem Party of Democratic Action had not registered for the May 31 elections nor had any Moslem opposition party, Zaimovic told a press conference in Mostar. Zaimovic said that all applications coming in after the deadline would be rejected. The City Electoral Commission confirmed that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), the Croatian Pure Party of Rights, and the Women's Association had registered to take part in the elections. Hans Birchler, a legal adviser at the EU administration, said he did not expect that the EU Council of Ministers would dicuss a postponement of the Mostar elections at a session in Brussels on May 13.
