ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - Zagreb daily VJESNIK on Wednesday runs a
commentary from Beli Manastir under the headline "Demilitarization
of Croatian Danubian Area Begins on Tuesday".
Under the headline "Media Issue Did Not Prevent Croatia's
Accession into Council of Europe", the paper reports about the
visit of a European mixed delegation to Croatia to discuss the
freedom of media. The article writes that the UNESCO offered to the
Croatian government a cooperation agreement and that financial and
technical assistance to independent media was discussed.
"Dollars to Those Who Want Thermoelectric Plants" is the
headline of an article about the latest offer of the Croatian
Electric Power Industry to award four million dollars to
municipalities which assent to the construction of a thermo-
electric power plant.
Another Zagreb daily VECERNJI LIST, also reports about the
start of the demilitarization of the Croatian Danubian area.
The paper also runs an interview with the director of an
agency for bank restructuring Vladimir Kopf, under the headline
"Bank Reconstruction is not a Political Project".
An article headlined "By Boat from Vukovar to Samac" reports
on preparations for the construction of a multi-purpose Danube-Sava
channel.
The paper also runs a commentary piece by Visnja Staresina
about the politics of the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic,
under the headline "Karadzic's Challenge", saying that capturing
and bringing him to The Hague was not probable because of what
Karadzic might say about Milosevic and about political games played
behind the scenes by the rest of the world.
