Kornblum, who replaced the former Assistant Secretary of State
Richard Holbrooke, was received by the Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman. The talks focused on various aspects of the implementation
of the Dayton agreement.
Kornblum stressed that the United States applied 'great deal
of effort and resources' in the implementation of the peace
process.
"We are satisfied that the basic structure for the Federation
has been put into place but there are strains in a number of
places", Kornblum told reporters, adding that the Federation was a
'key for the peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina'.
"The important thing is that there is a political impulse from
the top and that there is cooperation in all levels of government",
Kornblum said, adding his delegation had received that impulse from
President Tudjman during today's talks.
The implementation of the Dayton agreement was entering a
decisive phase. The implementation of the military part would soon
be over and the implementation of the part of the agreement which
affected the lives of all people in Bosnia-Herzegovina would start,
Kornblum said.
The U.S. delegation discussed with President Tudjman Croatia's
cooperation with the Hague War Crimes Tribunal. Kornblum said he
had received President Tudjman's assurances that Croatia would
fully cooperate with the Tribunal.
Kornblum visited Sarajevo yesterday. After his visit to
Zagreb, Kornblum will leave for Belgrade.
