Belgrade. #L#
'My visit to Belgrade was very useful and it confirmed my
hopes that President Milosevic and his side support the process',
Klein said after his meeting with Croatian Science and Technology
Minister Ivica Kostovic. Klein also greeted Belgrade's confirmation
of a minute signed during the meeting of Croatian and Serbian state
delegations in Zagreb on 11 March on the opening of the Vinkovci-
Sid highway and railway.
Klein also announced the visit of the U.S. Ambassador in the
United Nations Madeleine Albright to Croatia, adding he would
accompany her during her visit to Ilok and Vukovar.
Minister Kostovic said he had met with Klein so that they
could estimate together whether there had been any progress in the
reintegration of the area into Croatia. Kostovic said that the
announced opening of the Vinkovci-Sid highway and railway, which is
to be completed within 30 days, would enable a speedier return of
refugees to Nijemci and Lipovac.
Klein and Kostovic also talked about the establishment of
police in the area as well as about economic issues, communications
and the problem of the Djeletovci oil fields. Kostovic said they
had agreed on a series of meetings.
'However, we will not forget the basic humanitarian issue -
missing and imprisoned persons. The highway is a technical matter,
but this is an important issue for Croatia', Kostovic said.
