ZAGREB, Mar 11 (Hina) - About 15,000 displaced people would return
to the Croatian Danubian area within the framework of pilot
projects, Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Kostovic told reporters
Monday.
Gen. Jacques Klein was supposed to set up headquarters by
April 1 and the deployment of UNTAES troops would begin on April
15, Kostovic said, adding that demilitarisation should be completed
by June 1.
The international community was insisting that the return of
Serbs to their homes in other parts of Croatia be conducted hand in
hand with the reintegration of eastern Slavonia, Kostovic said.
Croatia had already provided lists of Croatian policemen who
were to help keep law and order in the Danubian area, Kostovic
said, adding that Croatia insisted that they wear Croatian
insignia.
Croatia also insisted that protection of property be included
among the tasks of the joint police force, in order to prevent
Sarajevo-type situations.
